John Mackie



John Mackie is EquaTerra's Public Sector Lead in the UK, Euorpe and Asia Pacific. He has over 15 years' experience in managing and delivering Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) assignments in the UK and mainland Europe for a wide range of clients and has exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

John has held senior positions ranging from managing outsourcing and managed service relationships, to supporting clients and suppliers of outsourcing services in both the public and private sectors. His public sector experience includes work for central and local government, emergency services, government agencies, utilities and non profit organisations. In addition, his private sector experience includes insurance, banking, manufacturing, travel, telecommunications, oil and gas, life sciences, retail and leisure sectors.

John's specific areas of expertise include development of sourcing and IT service delivery strategies for multiple organisations, service provider selection and contract negotiation, management of successful transitions and transformation programmes and supplier management. Previous work includes being responsible for the delivery of one of the most comprehensive value assurance exercises ever undertaken in the European marketplace, on an IT contract with a deal value in excess of £1 billion..

Recent Experience

  • Undertook a strategic facilities management sourcing options review for a public sector agency
  • Led a team that conducted a strategic review of IT services for a UK charity, considering value for money, resource levels and suitability for outsourcing
  • Led a team which undertook a detailed global value assurance of IT services for a pharmaceutical organisation
  • Renegotiated a global IT applications contract with a supplier on behalf of a global client
  • Supported the development and implementation of the governance organisation for an insurer
  • Led a team that drove a continuous service and relationship improvement programme between a global manufacturing organisation and its IT services provider
